Support Us

Adoption of rescued pets is certainly our primary goal, and our shelter is always full of wonderful dogs, cats, puppies and kittens awaiting their forever home.  Supporting us starts with adopting a homeless pet.   But there are many other ways to help.

The Washington Animal Rescue League is a private, non-profit organization that operates entirely on the donations of individuals and corporations.  We receive no government funding.  For that reason, the ability to rescue pets from desperate situations, to care for them medically and behaviorally, and adopt them to welcoming homes is entirely dependent on raising funds, training volunteers and receiving donations of materials or services.

The Washington Animal Rescue League has rescued the dogs, cats, puppies and kittens that had nowhere else to go for a century. As the oldest animal shelter in the Nation’s Capital, the Washington Animal Rescue League has rescued, cared for and adopted more than 100,000 animals in its history.
