Capone
Capone, a 4 year old male boxer, was brought to the Medical Center by his guardian when he showed worrisome signs such as lethargy and vomiting. A private vet clinic had diagnosed leptospirosis and referred the guardian, who was unable to afford treatment there, to the Medical Center. At the Center, bloodwork confirmed that Capone had leptospirosis, a bacterial infection spread through contaminated water. Capone received antibiotics to fight the infection, medication to relieve his vomiting and intravenous fluids. At first, it didn’t look like Capone would survive, but through the devotion of his guardian, who visited daily, and the power of medication, he pulled through.
He was at the Medical Center for a total of nine days, which would have cost thousands of dollars at a private vet clinic. However, Capone’s guardian received an 80% discount on the treatment and his employer donated the remainder of the cost of treatment. Capone’s guardian could not have been happier to take his companion home, and he was extremely grateful to the Medical Center for saving his beloved pet’s life.
