Guardian Angels
Our Guardian Angels Program Will Care for Your Survivor Pets
Many of us worry about what might happen to our companion animals should we become unable to care for them. We may not know anyone who is willing and able to provide a good alternative home for our beloved canine and feline family members.
Now, the Washington Animal Rescue League’s Guardian Angels program can help by finding new caretakers for the pets of donors who are either incapacitated or deceased.
Our mission is to help dogs and cats with nowhere else to go—and we are delighted to care for your animals in the event that they need assistance, as well.
All of the information you need is available here in this brochure.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
Our goal for animals in the Guardian Angels program is the same as it is for all the homeless cats and dogs in our custody: to find them loving, forever homes. We also wish to provide you with peace of mind knowing that an organization that truly cares will be ensuring the best possible future for your companions.
As a limited-admissions shelter, the League cannot and does not accept all pets surrendered by owners. Participation in this program, however, guarantees room in our shelter or with a League-approved foster home for up to six of your pets when you are no longer able to care for them.
Guardian Angels animals will be made available for adoption in our state-of-the-art shelter or placed temporarily in a League-approved and -supervised foster home. Renovated only a few years ago, our unique shelter is designed from the animal’s point of view to support them as they make the transition from one life to another, a process we attempt to make as stress-free as possible.
We place approximately 1,500 animals annually in carefully screened homes, and we will do our very best to find your animals new and loving homes promptly. We also will provide your detailed history and suggestions for their care to the new owner. You can feel entirely comfortable entrusting your best friends to us. We successfully care for thousands of animals every year, and we have been assisting animals since 1914.
SUPPORT
Pet owners who wish to participate in the Guardian Angels program are asked to make a non-refundable payment that is part fee and part donation. The requested donation amounts are:
$5,000 for the first animal
$1,000 for any additional animal,
up to a maximum total of six animals per donor
All but $800 per pet of these donations is eligible for a tax deduction; $800 is the average amount the League spends per each animal we care for in our shelter.
