The Washington Animal Rescue League's Rescue Me Gala, Mutts Strut, and Discovery Galleries' Paintings for Paws, are among the organization's biggest events, attracting hundreds of supporters. These events enable DC-area residents to support the League's community programs and contribute to the recent renovation that transformed the League into one of the most progressive and humane animal shelters in the world. Everyone is welcome to attend these events.
Rescue Me Gala 2007

On Saturday, April 21st, The Washington Animal Rescue League will host its annual black-tie ball, the Rescue Me Gala, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, DC. Approximately 500 guests will feast on gourmet cuisine while listening to live music provided by the 11-member band, Escapade.

Last year's Rescue Me Gala proved to be a memorable and entertaining evening. Jeff Corwin, host of Corwin's Quest on Discovery Channel's Animal Planet, enthralled guests as the night's keynote speaker, and NBC-4's Wally Bruckner served as the gala's emcee. The raffle featured a $13,000 aquamarine pendant, generously donated by Tiffany & Co., that created spirited bidding amongst the guests. The evening culminated with a parade of the League's finest canines, most of whom found good homes as a result of the gala.

This year, guests may expect another elegant affair with even more incredible auction items, including a different piece donated by Tiffany & Co., a spectacular African safari, and a private sitting for the winning bidder's pet with Pulitzer-prize winning photographer, Carol Guzy.

Mutts Strut

WARL anticipates more than 700 people and 200 dogs to descend on the campus of American University on Sunday, June 3rd, for the annual 5k Fun Run/2-mile walk. Mutts Strut is a great opportunity for runners (human only) and walkers to share a day outdoors with canine companions for a good cause. Plenty of family activities, including face painting and dog-biscuit decorating, will top off the fun. Race and registration information is posted on the League's website at www.warl.org. Please e-mail muttsstrut@warl.org with any questions.
Discovery Galleries

In April, Discovery Galleries in Bethesda, MD, will host a day of creativity and fun, as local artists ¡V both young and old ¡V support the League with their talents. A portion of the sales of the high-end art created by Discovery Galleries¡¦ many artists-in-residence will benefit the League, as will the sale of original dog bandanas created by them. The proceeds from a silent auction of portraits of League animal by students at Lowell School will all be donated to the League.

This will be the second such event. In December of last year, Discovery Galleries raised more than $5,000 for the League in the same way. The auction of WARL animal portraits created by the third graders of Burning Tree Elementary School set a record for the most funds raised by youth for the League.
