Executive Director's Letter
|
Dear Friends,
This promises to be one
of the busiest years in the
League's 93-year history.
The renovations are now
complete, and our facility
is, we believe, the most
humane center for homeless animals in the world.
The fact that the renovations are behind us does
not mean we can take a breather. Just the opposite.
We must now use the new facility to its fullest on
behalf of the thousands of homeless, abandoned, and
forgotten dogs and cats for whom WARL is a refuge of
healing and a passage to a better life.
In concrete terms that means we must work to keep
every one of the dog dens and cat condos inhabited by
a needy animal. A vacancy is a critical rescue
deferred. It means that we must hold ourselves to the
highest care standards and then push ourselves to go
beyond these to assure the very best possible quality of
life for the animals we look after. It means that we
must set ambitious new adoption goals and then
double our efforts to push these goals ever higher as
the year unfolds.
As the testimonials printed below demonstrate, we
are not alone in this work. Many, many people are
wishing us success. We see this not only in the
accolades of the media, but in the increased number
of volunteers coming through our doors and in
January's heartening jump in adoptions. We feel the
energy when we come to work. I believe that even the
animals here sense the excitement and positive buzz of
the place. I believe that, along with our new Medical
Center and the building's holistic design, that palpable
enthusiasm is a factor that speeds their recovery and
adoption.
It is not a time for relaxing. The new facility begins
a new day for animal rescue. It makes it possible to
work on a bigger, more effective level than ever before.
But the facility itself does not do the work; we all do.
So, I invite your continued and generous partnership
in this work. The animals need your help and your
donations now as much as ever. We need it more
than ever.
Thank you for joining us in this critical and
rewarding work.
For the animals,

Scotlund Haisley
