League Rescues Poodle Left in a Carrier on a Busy Corner
December 02, 2011
A Good Samaritan found Blair, a mixed miniature poodle, shaking pitifully in a tiny crate on the sidewalk of one of D.C.’s busiest thoroughfares. She rushed the year-and-a-half-old dog to our Medical Center, where our veterinarian gently removed Blair from the crate and found that she was thin, filthy, caked in feces, and in great pain. The vet had to anesthetize her to shave her matted fur. Under the fur, the skin on her hindquarters was covered with large, oozing, burn-like wounds …most likely caused by the urine and feces in which she’d been forced to sit for days.
After three weeks of antibiotics, pain patches, plenty of healthy food, and loving care, Blair became a happy, healthy dog. Despite the likely neglect she suffered for years, Blair is a wonderfully friendly and attentive dog who loves meeting strangers and enjoys the company of other dogs.
Not surprisingly, she has already found a loving home with a suburban Maryland family of four.
