Sunday Champagne Brunch to Raise Funds for the League’s Disaster Rescue Fund!
Old Ebbitt Grill Sunday Champagne Brunch
Sunday, July 18, 2010
Old Ebbitt Grill, 675 15th Street NW, Washington, DC

Enjoy unlimited champagne & mimosas!
Delicious vegetarian brunch by one of the city’s favorite restaurants!
Fun with friends & family while also helping animals!

That classic Washington restaurant, the Old Ebbitt Grill, has generously offered the League the opportunity to host a Sunday champagne brunch for 50 people in its Cabinet Room.  You and as many of your friends and family as you like are welcome to join us for this first-come, first-served affair that Old Ebbitt Grill has very generously discounted to help our animal welfare programs.

In addition to a delicious vegetarian brunch, you’ll enjoy unlimited champagne and mimosas, as well as League President and CEO Dr. Gary Weitzman providing a mid-year update to attendees.  He will discuss 2010 efforts including how we helped 70 dogs rescued from a Mississippi hoarding case, the medical care provided to three Rottweiler puppies saved from a domestic violence situation, and the challenges we faced during the twin blizzards in February.

To make this brunch even more special, donations received by attendees will all be targeted to our Disaster Rescue Fund, which will help animals like those arriving at the League in April and May from Kuwait, where the only animal shelter in the country burned down. When this happened, 28 dogs who survived desperately needed a place to go and that shelter reached out to the Washington Animal Rescue League, half way around the world.  Not long ago, we also gave refuge to 13 sled dogs from Canada.  And when a puppy mill is closed, we always stand ready to open our doors wide for the survivors.

But these emergency rescues stretch our resources very thin, especially considering that we are still committed to helping our local shelter partners and all the low-income guardians who rely on the League to help them keep and care for their pets.  With this ever-growing need for emergency responses, we’ve instituted a new Disaster Rescue Fund.  Donations to this special fund will go exclusively to transport and care for large-scale dog and cat rescues from puppy mills, hoarding situations, natural disasters, fires, and whatever other catastrophes hurt and displace large numbers of animals.

All of the proceeds raised from this event will benefit the new Disaster Rescue Fund.  The donation to attend is $250 per person.  All of this amount is tax-deductible except $25.  To encourage you to share the League’s mission with other cat and dog lovers in your life, the donation for a party of four is $900 and a table of ten is $2,000.
