Kitten Shower

June is the height of “kitten season” for animal shelters, and the Washington Animal Rescue League is seeking help in caring for the scores of kittens they will take in, raise, and find homes for. We’re holding a “kitten shower” at the shelter. Please bring donations of the following items:

  • Kitten formula
  • Cotton balls
  • Nipples (elongated)
  • Feeding bottles
  • Towels
  • Heating pads

Also, come learn how you can provide a foster home for un-weaned kittens or kittens with their mother. The League pays all costs of care—food, supplies, vaccinations, veterinary care—and fosters can bring the kittens (and their mothers, if they have them) back to the League for adoption once the kittens are 8 weeks of age.

Medical Center staff will present talks on raising unweaned kittens, and the adoptions staff will talk about our foster program.Refreshments will be served.

It costs the League about $164 to care for a neonatal kitten for 6 weeks.  Monetary donations in support of the League’s work with kittens can be made online here (select Buster’s Fund for Kittens under programs).  They can also be dropped off at the shelter or sent to Kittens, WARL, 71 Oglethorpe Street, NW, Washington, DC 20011.
