Give to the Max Day

  • November 09, 2011

The Washington Animal Rescue League is excited to be a part of Give to the Max Day, an online mass-giving effort being organized by the Community Foundation of the National Capital Region and the United Way of the National Capital Area Day for Wednesday, November 9.

On this special day, the League will be unveiling a new $15,000 challenge grant from one of our community’s most generous funders—the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, which has significantly supported many Washington-area charities. The challenge will allow us to raise urgently needed funds for our Medical Center, which cares for rescued and mistreated shelter animals and provides free and heavily discounted veterinary care to low-income city residents who cannot afford a private veterinarian.  Such care allows pet guardians struggling with their finances to keep their best friend at home and in good health.

We will send a reminder to our e-mail list on the morning of November 9, encouraging you to make a generous contribution that day.  It will be matched dollar-for-dollar before the end of the year with a Cafritz Foundation contribution of the same amount, up to a total of $15,000.  You will be doubling your donation!

The organizers of Give to the Max Day hope to raise at least $3 million from 10,000 area residents, especially those of younger generations, for local nonprofits.  The charities that attract the most donors or bring in the highest dollar amount on Give to the Max Day will get an additional $25,000; runners-up will receive $10,000 and $5,000.
