D.C. Animal Law Panel Discussion
A discussion of the local legal issues governing animals and their treatment. Panelists and topics are:
Dr. Gary Weitzman, CEO of the Washington Animal Rescue League and chair of the D.C. Board of Veterinary Medicine, will speak on progress the board has made and issues related to the relationship among veterinarians, their animal patients, and their human clients.
Lisa LaFontaine, CEO of the Washington Humane Society, will discuss innovations in Animal Control and Humane Law Enforcement and advocacy work that the humane society is engaged in.
Katherine Anne Meyer, a partner at the public interest law firm of Meyer Glitzenstein & Crystal, specializes in animal and environmental matters, among others. She will discuss topics in the law and urban wildlife.
Dr. Bernard Unti, the Humane Society of the United States, on a new bill to regulate wildlife control operators in the District and an historical perspective on animal protection law.
Cheryl Leahy, general counsel for Compassion Over Killing, on farmed animal cruelty issues and two recent case studies.
