Breaking News: Capital Campaign Update
WARL Receives ASPCA/Safe Steps Home Grant!
Each year, millions of cats and kittens are brought to shelters with the hope of finding permanent homes. More than 8 million others still wander homeless, living in harsh conditions on the street. With this in mind, the makers of Fresh Step® cat litter and the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) have recently made a grant in the amount of $15,000 to The Washington Animal Rescue League! The money will be applied directly towards the creation of the new cat nursery - an exciting part of the League's ongoing capital campaign renovation.

The Safe Steps Home program awards financial grants each year to animal welfare organizations across the U.S. that use innovative means to help homeless cats in their communities. Safe Steps Home offers financial support to a diverse range of worthy organizations making a real difference through innovative programs. The League is extremely proud to be associated with this much-needed program!

A plaque acknowledging the Safe Steps Home grant will be prominently displayed upon entrance to the cat nursery for all guests of the League to see.

Dreyfus Foundation Provides $20,000 Grant
This past November, the League was officially notified that a $20,000 capital campaign grant was awarded on behalf of The Max and Vicotria Dreyfus Foundation. The foundation, already a supporter of the League's humane education program, decided on naming the newly renovated Medical Lab - a very busy part of our Medical Center.

For the past nine years, the Medical Center has served literally thousands of financially challenged District residents and their companion animals with free spay/neuter procedures and heavily discounted veterinary fees. The Medical Center boasts some extremely needed upgrades as part of WARL's renovation, allowing greater efficiency, a cleaner, more organized work environment, and an increase in space so that more animals can be seen by League medical staff.
