More than 100 canines, from Great Danes to Chihuahuas, joined 540 people for the Rescue Me Gala, an evening of cocktails, vegetarian hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and an address by Washington Post’s Pulitzer Prize-winning humorist, Gene Weingarten. The event raised almost $200,000 for the League. About $35,000 of that came through the silent auction, which included more than 150 donated trips, restaurant meals, hotel stays, tickets to sporting events and the theater, and other tempting items.
