The Washington Humane Society (WHS)/Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL) is in search of a Staff Veterinarian to join our life-saving team!  This newly-merged organization is leading the industry in programs that bring vital support to our community while saving lives in our multiple shelter locations. The Staff Veterinarian will work with WHS’ Medical Director and Practice Director to provide the highest standard and veterinary medicine possible.  Staff Veterinarians rotate through all areas of our operation – shelter medicine, public clinic, diverse surgery and high-volume spay/neuter surgeries. Manager, Corporate & Foundation Relations

 Adoptions Counselor

The Washington Humane Society (WHS)/Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL) is in search of an Adoptions Counselor to join our dynamic team!  This newly-merged organization is leading the industry in programs that bring vital support to our community while saving lives in our multiple shelter locations. This position will be split 50/50 between our facility on Oglethorpe Street and New York Avenue adoption centers.  This is a full-time position working 4-10 hour shifts Thursday – Sunday.

 Job Summary:  Facilitate animal adoptions by providing excellent customer service to potential adopters, helping to make matches between available animals and adopters, and completing all steps of the adoption process. The adoption counselor works with a team of other adoption counselors at two locations to ensure that all adoptable animals are well-presented and ultimately find their way into loving homes. Animal Care Supervisor

New York Avenue Adoption Center

Washington Humane Society/Washington Animal Rescue League is looking for a new Animal Care Supervisor. The supervisor will be leading a team of Animal Caregivers at our New York Avenue Adoption Center; monitoring animals and activities in all kennel and cattery areas; and providing highest quality of care and cleaning for domestic and exotic animals according to industry best practices. High school diploma and equivalent. Minimum two years of experience as an Animal Caregiver or equivalent. One year of supervisory experience preferred. Behavior and Training Counselor (part-time)

New York Avenue Adoption Center

Make a difference at Washington Humane Society/Washington Animal Rescue League’s as our new part-time Behavior and Training Counselor at our New York Avenue Adoption Center. Responsibilities include providing and performing temperament testing, training, and enrichment of shelter animals; and selecting and rehabilitating potential animals in behavior modification programs identified per individual needs. Knowledge of canine and feline behavior and training. Must be able to work one or both weekend days and be available to answer staff questions on an “on-call” basis. Minimum 3 years of experience working at an animal shelter, boarding kennel, or other facility where animals are housed. Digital Director

Oglethorpe Adoption Center

You’ll be leading and developing a comprehensive digital program to promote and enhance WHS/WARL’s services, visibility, and community impact; directing organization’s efforts across social media, email and web platforms; developing and guiding a multi-year online strategy for WHS/WARL’s presence across all digital channels; conveying broad understanding of digital communications and marketing to advance WHS/WARL’s mission. Must have demonstrated proven track record of developing and implementing successful digital communications programs for issue organizations; minimum 5 years of experience in digital communications, including in a supervisory and leadership capacity. Management experience should include managing digital staff working in both technical and content-focused capacities. Facilities Maintenance Coordinator

New York Avenue Adoption Center

Join our Facilities Maintenance team as the new Facilities Maintenance Coordinator with the Washington Humane Society/Washington Animal Rescue League! We are looking for that team player to perform a variety of routine building maintenance tasks at all WHS/WARL facilities, including tasks in one or more fields (e.g. carpentry; electrical; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); plumbing, etc).  Responsibilities include performing minor electrical and plumbing maintenance, minor painting, carpentry and masonry work. High school diploma and equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 1 year experience in facility maintenance.  Foster Care Coordinator (part-time)

Our dynamic rehoming team is looking for a part-time Foster Care Coordinator at our Oglethorpe location. Responsibilities include providing support for animals and people involved with foster care program, ensuring appropriate matches between eligible animals and new foster parents.
