Dog Training

The League offers a range of positive reinforcement dog training classes—everything from basic manners to agility skills—for all dogs. Each 6-week-long course tuition is deliberately kept affordable at $150 to encourage people to train their dogs using the most modern, humane, and effective methods. Our trainers are also dedicated to our adoptable dogs and work with them on basic obedience—some of the dogs have been AKC CGC certified! All of our dog training classes are taught by the League’s CPDT-certified trainers, and the maximum class size is 6—meaning you and your dog will get professional, individual attention throughout each course.

Class Descriptions

Canine Games (aka Basic Manners)
There are no pre-requisites for this class. Canine Games is a basic obedience course taught in a friendly class setting. Dogs will be taught foundation skills such as: attention, sit, down, coming when called, wait, settle and loose leash walking. At the end of each class, we will have a competition to show off whose dog learned their skills the best! This is our most popular class and is a pre-requisite for all of our other classes. Please register early so we can reserve a spot for you and your dog. The class is for non-aggressive dogs over 12 weeks old, and you must provide proof of current vaccinations. The first class is a mandatory orientation just for people (please leave your dog at home). Saturday classes have one joint orientation on the first day of classes at 10AM. $150 for the six one-hour classes.

Canine Good Citizen
CGC is an AKC all breed and mixes event (actually one of the few “titles” a mixed breed dog can attain) demonstrating nice temperament and basic obedience skills. The class will focus on ten exercises demonstrating temperment and control. You will build on the skills you have already learned, such as: better leash walking and recalls, stay, settle, and leave it. Graduation will be certification by a CGC evaluator. A CGC is equivalent to a level one therapy dog and most assisted therapy dog program require it as a starting point. If you have ever considered “sharing the fuzzy love” it is a great place to start! This class is for non-aggressive dogs 16 weeks and older, and you must provide proof of current vaccinations. $150 for six one-hour classes.

Barky McGrowlerson
This class is for dogs who love to voice their opinions about everything, and is designed specifically for reactive dogs. We will work on de-sensitizing your pet to make them a well-rounded, happy companion wherever they go! The class is for non-aggressive dogs over 12 weeks old, and you must provide proof of current vaccinations.  $150 for six one-hour classes.

Levels
Levels is the perfect course for people who are too busy to enroll in a 6-week-long training class, and caters to you and your dog’s individual needs. Participants in the Levels course will have 14 weeks to complete the six classes. You can choose which days work best for you, and you can choose which skills you would like to work on with your dog each time you come in. The classes will be taught in a semi-private environment. Examples of skills covered in this class: leash skills, good behavior for grooming, pedicure ediquette, stay, heel, etc. The class is for non-aggressive dogs over 12 weeks old who have successfully completed our Canine Games class, and you must provide proof of current vaccinations.  $150 for six one-hour classes.

Bully Class
This will be an off-site class specifically designed for pit bulls and other ‘bully’ breeds. We will work with you and your dog on manners, tricks, socialization, behavior, and more. The class is for non-aggressive dogs over 12 weeks old who have successfully completed our Canine Games class, and you must provide proof of current vaccinations.  $150 for six one-hour classes.

Tricks
Tricks will teach you and your dog just that: tricks! Of course, we will cover sit, down, stay, but also fun tricks such as high five, roll over, and more! The class is for non-aggressive dogs over 12 weeks old who have successfully completed our Canine Games class, and you must provide proof of current vaccinations.  $150 for six one-hour classes.
