With as many as 400 dogs and cats available at any given time, the League is one of the largest companion animal adoption centers in the country. All of the animals receive full medical and behavioral evaluations, and our adoption staff is adept at working with people to ensure their new family member’s successful transition into a permanent, loving home.

All new and potential adopters can come to our New Guardian Class! Click here for more information and for upcoming class dates.

Step 1: Preparation for your visit!
Bringing photo identification with your current address, a copy of your lease (for renters), and your veterinarian’s telephone number will greatly speed the adoptions process.

Step 2: Come visit the animals!
Come to our shelter and you can visit with the animals. You might want to fill out a Meet your Match survey to help you make a decision on what would be the right animal for your lifestyle.

Step 3: Check the status!
Check the status of the animal(s) you’re interested in. Not every animal is available,  some may be already adopted, and some may still be under evaluation. Adoptions staff and volunteer adoption counselors are on hand to help you determine status as well as answer any questions you might have about the animal’s temperament and care requirements. Bear in mind, however, that some of the animals whom you meet were strays or surrenders to other shelters with unknown histories.

Step 4:  Talk to us!
Once you fill out the survey, an adoptions coordinator will determine what “color” you are. If you meet the pet of your dreams, you may then fill out the flip side of the adoption application. At that time an adoptions coordinator will review and go over any questions you may have.

Step 5: Homecoming!
Please allow 1–-5 days for the processing of the application and to prepare your new family member to go home. You will be notified by telephone whether you have been chosen as the best match for the animal(s) you applied for, and at that point, you and your adoption counselor can arrange for a time when you can pick up your animal. When you pick up you will pay the fee and sign paperwork. (Please note, we only accept cash and debit/credit cards.) When picking up your new family member please come equipped with a collar and leash (for a dog) or a carrier (for a cat).

What is our adoption fee and what does it cover?

Puppies (six months and under): $250
Purebred dogs:  $250

Make an appointment with your Vet!

Since some of the animals we take in have unknown histories, we cannot guarantee the health of any animal adopted from the League. Although our Medical Center provides the best possible care, their stay with us is limited and there is a chance that an existing parasite or virus may not become apparent until after they are in their new home.
